| Lander in the News | [TV] |
| As Odyssey successfully went into orbit, the BBC 1 featured Beagle 2. For the 6pm main news, science correspondent Fergus Walsh reported live from McLaren Composites showing progress on the
build of the lander structure. The piece included an interview with Colin, a clip from the new animation by Dave Rowntree (Nanomation) and an explanation of how the lander will still need to withstand a
hefty thump when released from the gas filled bags. Below: At the futuristic McLaren Composites factory. |

| Everyone wants a Beagle 2 story | [TV] |
| Although it was Odyssey's day, Beagle 2 got its fair share of coverage - from TV and radio on launch day, TV critics trails of "Life on Mars" produced for Channel 5 TV by Pioneer (shown on 9 April), via Dave
Rowntree's animation for the project in Q magazine, and the selection by Ian Taylor MP of Beagle 2 as one of his highlighted points in the Guardian 10 April [MPs were given 40 words to sum up 4
years], to a question on Beagle 2 on "Never mind the Buzzcocks" pop quiz (9 April) - and yes, the panel did know the answer ! |

that the Producer, Assistant Producer and Researcher no longer work there. Perhaps they have gone to Mars ..... or maybe they were Martians ...... ! |

| Blur animated | [TV] |
| Unknown to most Blur fans, drummer Dave Rowntree has worked as a professional computer animator for several years. His company Nanomation, which specialises in all aspects of 3D animation,
as well as interactive entertainment and animation software development, joined forces with Beagle 2 to produce an exclusive section of the Beagle video. |
| The cartoons (below) show Blur in spacesuits performing the song 'Far Out' from their album 'Parklife'. Dave's work has also been aired on 'MTV' and 'The Eleven O'clock Show'. |
| Dave says of the animation "You have to produce 25 pictures for every second of animation, so a minute and half is a lot of work for two people. Luckily we're not interested in sleep". |

| Filming in the rain | [TV] |
| There may not be water on Mars but there was plenty falling at this photoshoot at the time of the British Association talk by Professor Pillinger. Off to film (for a BBC local TV series on space activities in
Eastern England titled From Brancaster to Mars) in a nearby golf course bunker, the comparison in size of Beagle contrasted with the golf-buggy sized Athena Rover was subtly made. |

| Last week Anglia TV showed Colin Pillinger demonstrating the Beagle model to presenter Penny Wright; the broadcast included an interview with musicians Dave Rowntree and Alex James filmed at the
London Planetarium. Blur fans will have understood Anglia's promotion of the interview - "from Parklife to Mars life" ! |
