Beagle 2 - Destination Mars - BUT WHO ACTUALLY WENT ??[TV]
Our efforts to discover why the Beagle 2 contribution did not appear on Channel 4's Destination Mars have failed to reveal any explanation. Phone calls to RDF TV, who made the programme, have ascertained that the Producer, Assistant Producer and Researcher no longer work there. Perhaps they have gone to Mars ..... or maybe they were Martians ...... !

Mars in their Eyes[IN PRINT]
Written by Will Hodgkinson and with a double page spread illustration showing Damien Hirst, Colin Pillinger, Dave Rowntree, Alex James and Beagle 2 (photographed by Gered Mankowitz) the Sunday Times magazine article outlined the mission and the contributions from Britpop and Britart. And as for the cup of tea in the picture (for those who saw the article!), well it was 4 o'clock of course .... time to put the kettle on.

The new rock and roll[IN PRINT]
It may not have been Glastonbury, reported the Daily Telegraph about the Science meets the Media party organised by the paper at the Royal Society - but Beagle 2 supporter Alex James of the rock band Blur clearly attracted the attention of reporters. During the event Alex was photographed with Colin Pillinger, and the two spent much of the time discussing the mission.
"Hey Science, it's the new rock and roll... it's exciting, it's glamorous" - Alex James

Westminster Hall[GOVERNMENT]
A few choice clips from the Space debate: "The Mars lander [Beagle 2] ... gives exactly that opportunity of excitement" Mr Ian Taylor MP, "I have to say that the Pillinger example is a great one...... We need more examples of this character" Mr Martin O'Neill MP.
And our favourite: "Lord Sainsbury told me last night that Blur, as opposed to Blair, have recorded a track to be taken in Beagle 2 to Mars. Damien Hirst has designed something. It is an exciting project, of which we should all be proud" Mr Alan Johnson MP

Blur animated[TV]
Unknown to most Blur fans, drummer Dave Rowntree has worked as a professional computer animator for several years. His company Nanomation, which specialises in all aspects of 3D animation, as well as interactive entertainment and animation software development, joined forces with Beagle 2 to produce an exclusive section of the Beagle video.
The cartoons (below) show Blur in spacesuits performing the song 'Far Out' from their album 'Parklife'. Dave's work has also been aired on 'MTV' and 'The Eleven O'clock Show'.
Dave says of the animation "You have to produce 25 pictures for every second of animation, so a minute and half is a lot of work for two people. Luckily we're not interested in sleep".
