| Damien Hirst shows MARS to the world | [INSTRUMENTS] |
| At the White Cube gallery in Hoxton Square, London, the first artwork destined to land on another planet was shown to the media. The spot painting, designed and painted by Damien Hirst, for the Beagle 2 lander,
is named "MARS" by the artist. The artwork provides a vital calibration target for the cameras, microscope and XRS and Moessbauer spectrometers. |

| Boil in the bag camera | [INSTRUMENTS] |
| The flight spare of the stereo camera pair was recently sterilised (see News from Beagle 2 number 21) and later tested to check that everything worked as it should. The sterilisation did not in any way
impair the functions of the camera. More about Planetary Protection coming soon. |
| Below: The stereo camera following sterilisation, prior to undergoing tests to show that its functions were unaffected. |
