Dr Sims spoke about the work of the LOCC recovery team, highlighting potential failure modes
which could be recovered from. A run down of the forthcoming programmed communication contacts
with Mars Odyssey and Mars Express was also given.
Further scenarios of what could have
happened to Beagle 2 were also discussed, including the remote probability of Beagle 2 having landed
in a crater, which has been recently discovered within the landing ellipse. However, the
chance of Beagle 2 landing in this exact spot is thought to be very low and this is just one of
the areas that is being currently investigated.
